Iceland's expedition offerings — volcanic highland crossings, glacier hikes, and circumnavigation cruises — come with risks from rapidly changing weather, glacial rivers, and geothermal hazards. While Reykjavík has excellent medical facilities, inland highlands and the remote Westfjords have limited access, and SAR operations by ICE-SAR volunteers are world-class but evacuation can be slow in winter.
